Sightseeing & Stops
* Group meets your guide in front of our brand new Chinatown Visitor Center right across the Chinatown Library.
* The big Plaza in Chinatown Square with Mural and 12 Zodiac animals
* Walking through the Plaza, passing Joy Yee, General Merchandise shops, many restaurants, ice cream parlors, and historic St. Anne’s Bakery
* Leaving the Plaza, the group crosses Archer, then Cermak Rd – “named for a former Chicago Mayor killed in an assassination attempt on a U.S. President!” – and walks east hearing about how Old Chinatown developed.
*At corner of Wentworth, the group is encouraged to take pictures beneath Chinatown’s Welcome Gate, and Guide points out an alley that has “started” in the Chicago PD TV Show.
* Next stop is a few minutes talking about historic Pui-Tak Center and the importance of Merchant Associations in any developing Chinese communities
* Continue walking south, encouraging pictures of the historic Won Kow building “used in many TV shows and movies, and a favorite hangout of legendary Chicago gangster Al Capone, etc.” Make quick mention of cool recessed balcony atop Emperor’s Choice restaurant, and the beautiful TerraCotta decorative tiles on that building, as on the Pui-Tak Center and many others throughout Chinatown
* Continue to visit the beautiful 2 story Chinese American Museum.
* Crossing street to Allen Lee Plaza and learn about Chicago Christian Union Church and its connection to The Pui-Tak Center. All may take pictures in front of the YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL wall
*Passing by busy Chui Kwon bakery, the new BUDDHIST Temple, and historical Won Kow restaurant with 91 year history and backdrop in many movies and TV Shows
*Group will then continue walking north, cross Cermak and view the Nine Dragons Wall next to the Chinatown Visitor Center to conclude Tour
* For 2 hours tour, continue to beautiful Ping Tom Memorial Park to explore the beautiful pavilion and architectures and watch the skylines from the river side and listen to the story of the Chinese Mural Wall down the bridge
